Sanctuary Integrative Medicine & the Crowley Brothers Memorial Road Race are proud to present:
The Crowley & Sanctuary Lifestyle Challenge
We are proud to announce our collaboration on this fantastic new project which involves taking four volunteer participants through our integrative health and wellness programs. This was their chance to experience a potential life changing transformation! The participants have taken part in our specialized lifestyle change program called FirstLine Therapy (FLT), in addition to multiple other modalities we have to offer when treating the whole person. FLT is supervised by our physicians and has been widely successful in the three years we have implemented its use. It consists of a specialized diet modification specific to an individual patient's symptoms/issues as well as advisement on the following components:
- Education/Knowledge
- Balanced Eating
- Regular activity/exercise
- Appropriate nutritional supplementation
- Stress Management
- Sleep
Participants also received other integrative therapies that may have included:
- Acupuncture
- Personal Training
- Yoga
- Massage/Thai Yoga Massage
- Naturopathic Treatment
- Chiropractic Treatment
The program has run for approximately six months, and will culminate with their participation in the Crowley Brothers Memorial Road Race events in June 2012 (www.crowleyroadrace.com).
I'm proud to introduce the participants and offer you a glimpse into their motivations:
Diane Douglas is a 47 year old Brandon resident. She is a customer service representative for CVPS and is a mother of two. Diane would like to find her way back to her ideal weight, and have more energy, all while including her household in some healthy changes. In addition to weight gain, Diane deals with High Blood Pressure, Elevated Cholesterol and Fatigue.
Diane joined the lifestyle challenge to address her health issues, as well as to take this opportunity to increase her quality of life for what’s to come. She wanted guidance and motivation, and draws upon her time in military service to help to navigate this challenge. She wants to improve the quality of life for her children, and be ready for anything: for example, throwing the ball around with her son. Join Diane’s journey as she retrains herself for her own personal lifestyle challenge.
Sharon Ellis is a 51 year old Rutland resident who works in the nursing home industry. She is employed as a counselor for the Pines Rutland Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. Sharon is learning to take care of herself because like so many modern women, she finds she is taking care of everyone else first. Sharon deals with weight gain, in addition to High Blood Pressure, Type II Diabetes, and Sleep Apnea.
When asked why Sharon wanted to participate in the challenge, she described wanting to address her physical and mental health. She also was looking for support in regards to diet and exercise which she found challenging to manage on her own. Watch as Sharon learns to focus on making her health and wellness a priority during the challenge!
Karen Nashad is a 49 year old Rutland resident who also works at the Pines Rutland Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation as the Director of Nutritional Services. Along with Patrick, Karen works in food service and realizes the importance of nutrition and its direct results. Karen is also learning to put herself as a priority in addition to helping care for her mother. Karen’s health challenges include High Blood Pressure, GERD, weight gain and Atrial Fibrillation.
When asked why Karen was interested in participating in the challenge, she wanted a chance to change her current state of health, and guarantee herself a healthy future. She wants to be a healthy woman and put herself first. She wants to be free of the physical restraints that currently affect her daily life. Join Karen in her quest to gain important life changing health information.
Patrick Rawls is a 29 year old Pittsford resident who works in the restaurant industry. If you are familiar with downtown Rutland’s establishments you’ll often see him in the Killington Avenue Deli cart, of which he and his family own along with the Killington Avenue Deli. When Patrick joined the Lifestyle Challenge he was motivated to address his struggles with weight gain, as well as his other diagnoses which include High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Type II Diabetes, and Sleep Apnea.
His main motivation for participating in our challenge is so that he can regain life as he knew it. He’s turning 30 this year, and wants to improve on his health for his family. In fact he’ll be turning 30 shortly after the Crowley Brothers Road Race, so he’ll be celebrating several milestones the day of the Crowley including his new commitment to living a healthy lifestyle! Watch and see how Patrick progresses and utilizes his recommendations from the Sanctuary.
